Mr. Lamony Hood, Jr was born in Forest Park, GA on March 7, 1961 to the parentage of the late Lamon Hood, Sr. and late Mrs. Lois Hood. He received his education from the Fairmont High School in Griffin, GA. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Corinth Baptist Church. He worked for B & D Moving Company. On Friday November 9, 2012 he went to be at rest with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories a son Cornelius (Asia) Brown; three grandsons, Cornelius Brown, Jr., Kamoni Brown and Kareem Brown; on step grandson Ryan Brown; a uncle Mr. Henry Lewis Puckett 2 aunts Mrs. Addie Bell Puckett and Mrs. Blanch; a special cousin, Mrs. Juanita Williams and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
Ms. Marie Ann Collier April 7, 1953 – November 5, 2012 Ms. Marie Ann Collier was born on April 7, 1953 in Pike County Georgia to the late Mr. William (Bill) Collier, Sr. and Mrs. Bessie Rose Collier. Three brothers preceded her in death, the late Mr. Marvin Collier, Mr. Willie George Collier and Mr. Johnny Calvin (JC) Collier. She attended school in Pike County. She was an employee for Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, Georgia, for over 30 years. Ms. Collier entered into rest on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She always showed a smile and a laugh that was full of joy. She loved people and people loved her. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to extend a helping hand and she would give her last dime to anyone that was in need. She will be missed, but not forgotten. She leaves to cherish he memories one loving devoted daughter, Ms. Quintina Michelle Collier, and one loving son Mr. Broderick Kalarn Collier, 2 grandchildren, Jarvaruis J Collier and Janneshea J Elder, 1 great Grandchild, Jayden Crawford and 1 devoted nephew Sedale Shannon. She also leaves 1 sister, Mrs. Louise Shannon; 7 brothers; Mr. Bob Rose Collier, Mr. William Collier, Jr both of Zebulon, Mr. Eddie (Velma) Collier and Mr. Robert Eugene (Yvonne) Collier all of Thomaston, GA, Mr. Willie Floyd Collier, Mr. Brady (Lilly) Collier, Elder Milton (Ann) Collier all of Dade County, Florida; She also leaves to mourn her a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and many family and friends
Mr. Harvey “Tina” Searcy December 28, 1919 – October 11, 2012 Mr. Harvey Searcy, better known as “Tina”, was born on December 28, 1919 to the late Mrs. Annie Smith-Searcy and the late Mr. Joe Searcy in Upson County. He was also the grandson of the late Papa Frank Smith. He was the second child born to his parents. Two brothers preceded him in death, Mr. James c Searcy and Mr. Alton Searcy.
He accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Welcome Grove Baptist Church. He was united in holy matrimony with the late Mrs. Louise E. Searcy. To this union, one child was born. Mr. Harvey entered into eternal sleep on Thursday, October 11, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memory a very loving and devoted daughter, Parnice Searcy; six step-children; Verna Bankston, Mildred Pearson, Ines Drain, Lovejoy Walker, Rosa Smith and Claston Drain known as BoBo; one brother, Mr. Joe C Searcy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him. Mr. George Grantling March 29, 1949 – September 18, 2012 Mr. George Grantling was born on March 29, 1949 to Moses and Amanda Walker, but he was reared by the loving parents of father, Zad Thomas Grantling and mother, Bennie Lou Grantling in Upson County. He was educated in the Yatesville Elementary and Drake High School System in Upson County. George worked for Martha Mills and several restaurants in Atlanta, GA, where he also had several side jobs. He accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior and attended several churches in the area. He enjoyed playing card, going to family gatherings, attended softball games and going to church. He was preceded in death by his father, Zad Thomas (ZT) Grantling, birth father, Moses Walker, Sr; mother Bennie Lou Grantling; brothers: John Thomas (Johnny) Grantling and Walter (Lit Mose) Walker; sisters: Josse Walker and Linda Walker.
George entered into rest on Thursday, September 13, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memory a very loving and devoted sister, Annie Grace (Albert) Price of Thomaston, GA; birth mother: Amanda Walker of Detriot, MI; sisters: Christine Walker, Odette Holliman and Jean Stembridge all of Detriot, MI; brothers: Tommy Searcy; Moses (Emily) Walker, Jr; JC (Melinda) Grantling all of Detriot, MI and WF Grantling of Thomaston, GA; and a host od nieces, nephews, family and friends that will truly miss him. Alfred Neal “Quick” Collins January 11, 1954 – September 7, 2012 Mr. Alfred Collins was born on January 11, 1954 to Ms. Leola Collins and Mr. Solomon Johnson in Upson County. He was educated in the Upson County Schools System. Alfred was a dedicated and hard worker, who was self-employed as a landscaper and painter. He accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior and joined Mary Lizzie Baptist Church. He was a intelligent man who adored his family and spent much of his time with his grandchildren. Although, he was a very outspoken person the people that knew him felt the kindness of his heart. On January 10, 1979, he was united in holy matrimony with Jeannine Garland to this union two children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents Ms. Leola Collins and Mr. Solomon Johnson and a daughter, Camesha Carnell. Alfred entered into eternal sleep on Friday, September 7, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memory a very loving and devoted wife Jeannine Garland Collins, two daughters; Santaner Collins and LaQuana Garland; two grandchildren; Ta’Nyzia Ny’Kaden Lockhart and Ta’Kyla Nevach Lockhart; brothers; Walter (Nancy) Johnson, and Solomon (Betty) Johnson; sisters: Emma Johnson and Sylvia Terry; and a host of other relative and friends that loved him dearly.
Mr. Thomas James Durham February 14, 1958 – August 25, 2012 Mr. Thomas James “Pumpkin” Durham was born in Upson County on February 14, 1958 to Mr. Willie Clarence and Addie Durham. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his three brothers, Tommy Gilbert; Willie Johnson, Jr: and Charlie Will Durham. At an early age he accepted Christ and united with Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. On Saturday, August 18, 2012 God called Thomas home from labor to reward. He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Artayus Shamar (Diane) Durham; two grandchildren; Jasmine and Elijah Durham; four sisters; Jackie (Donald) Grant, Savannah (Marcus) Kendall; Christeen Walker and Armanda (Willie) Wilkins; three brothers; Eddie Durham; Alva (Lisa) Durham; and Johnny Durham, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends that loved him and will miss him dearly.
Mr. Charles Edwards “Buster” Porter May 27, 1948 – August 22, 2012 Mr. Charles Edward “Buster” Porter was born May 27, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia; to the parentage of Charles Stone and Zelma Porter. He was preceded in death by a daughter Zi’mya Porter; a brother, Willie Dill. A beautiful life is the fruit of character. The beautiful life of Charles “Buster” will forever live on thru his family. Along with being a loving husband and father he was also a loyal and devoted son-in-law and nephew. His love for his family was boundless. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving devoted wife, Mary Porter of Griffin, GA; two sons: Darius Barron of Atlanta, GA AND Najee Porter of Griffin, GA. A loving and devoted father & mother-in-law: James and Bessie Brownlee; one sister; Marion Hamilton; brothers; Robert Gean Stanford (Jackie), and Arthur James Stanford (Elizabeth) all of Atlanta, GA; a special aunt: Emily Jane Porter of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews that truly loved him.
Mrs. Leatha Mae King March 14, 1935 – August 8, 2012 Mrs. Leatha Mae King was born in Meansville, GA on March 14, 1935 to the late Marion McKay and Andrew Lyons. She departed this earthly life on August 8, 2012 at Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, GA. She was a devoted member of New Mercy Baptist Church as well as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Although we will miss her, we realize that our loss is heaven’s gain. Leatha Mae was preceded in death by her husband
M. C. King; two daughters; Jacqueline King-Penn and Mary Ann Evans and one son; Miles Calvin King; two sisters; Pamela Sue Lyons and Early Mae Crowder. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted family which includes three daughters; Sara Ann (Walter) King, Sylvia Mitchell and Sheila (Freddie) McCord all of Griffin, GA; Five sisters, Charlotte Green of Macon, GA; Ethel Bell Armor, Jessie Lee Lyons, Joann Brown and Geraldine Lyons all of Griffin, GA; Four brothers; Andrew Lyons, Jr, Clarence Hood, Steve Lyons and Henry Watkins all of Griffin, GA; 14 grandkids; 28 great grandkids and 2 great, great grandkids. She also have a host of other relatives and family and friends who mourned her passing Mr. James E. Avery August 29, 1932 – June 28, 2012 Mr. James Earl Avery 79, of 321 Camp Road, Milner, GA passed away on June 28th at Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, GA. Memorial service for Mr. Avery was held on Thursday July 12, 2012 at 5:00pm in the Chapel at Burden’s Funeral Home at 222 S 14th Street, in Griffin, GA. Mr. Avery leaves to mourn him his loving wife Mrs. Nancy Avery, a daughter, Mrs. Tina (Craig) Thompson, 3 sons; James Earl Avery, Tin Harless and Chuck Harless. Grandchildren; James Earl Avery, III, Ryan, Tyler, Dillon, Melissa, Charles and Chance Harless, Brittany Rogers and Zena Defoor: siste-in-law; Marge (Ron) Bassett and Family. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends that loved him dearly.
