On Saturday, August17, 2013, Mrs. Betty Jean Stokes, finished he course, departed this earthly life to receive her crown of righteousness which was laid for her. Betty Jean Stokes was born on June 3, 1940 to the union of the late Mrs. Essie Mae Richardson and the late Mr. John Henry Taylor in Butts County, Georgia.
Betty Accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and joined Antioch Baptist Church. On July 18, 1968 she was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Bennie Lee Stokes. Their union was blessed with five children. She was preceded in death by her parents: Essie Mae and John Henry Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her memories five children: Beverly (Walter) Andrews; Tamatha (Ricky) Brittian; Suebena Stokes (Joshua Lawrence); Timothy Taylor and Clubby Stokes (Veronica Askins) all of Griffin, GA; one sister; Mrs. Essie Mae Hicks of Flovilla, FL; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews, cousins and best friend Annie Lee (Walter) Brittian of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Martha Miller-Brooks of Griffin, GA
Mrs. Betty homegoing celebration was held at Corinth Baptist Church, on Merrybrook Road in Rover, GA on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 1:00pm, where Rev. John Adams officiated. Interment was in Griffin Memorial Gardens.
Burden’s Funeral Home of Griffin, 222 S 14th Street was in charge of arrangements.
